Bring “eSMILES” to the faces of children and families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses across Australia & New Zealand during the holiday season

Ronald McDonald Houses across Australia and New Zealand and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have announced the launch of the “eSMILES” campaign, following last year’s successful inaugural year, which raised $10,000 for the charity.  This year HP is upping their support donating $75,000.

The project is designed to bring smiles via emailed well wishes to the faces of the families of hospitalised children staying at Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) in the lead up to the holiday season using HP’s ePrint technology.

To facilitate the project an HP ePrinter has been installed in the common areas of ten Ronald McDonald Houses in both Australia and New Zealand so that anyone can email a free get-well “eSMILE” to children and families staying in the House in their local area. Using the ePrint technology which allows you to print from any internet connected device from virtually anywhere1, all well wishes sent will automatically be printed out in the common room2 and will be posted up on the wall for all children and families to see.

“eSMILES” are completely free to send and could take the form of a personalised photo card, a get well letter, get well drawings and cartoons, photos or funny jokes to make the kids laugh.

“We’re so excited to partner with HP and use their ePrint technology to bring this exciting campaign to the children and families staying with us over Christmas this year,” said Malcolm Coutts, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities, “Seeing the eSMILES come through from all the people thinking of them is priceless to these families and we can’t wait to see the messages of hope and joy that people send through this year.”

This year the HP will donate $75,000 to the participating Ronald McDonald Houses. Throughout the campaign period, people will be encouraged to send well wishes to the Houses in their local area to spread goodwill during the holiday season.

Once “eSMILES” have been received they will be displayed on the common room wall of the RMH for all the children to see.

“We’re thrilled to take this campaign national following the success of last year’s eSMILES initiative,” said Richard Bailey, Vice-President of HP’s Imaging and Printing Group South Pacific. “It’s a truly worthwhile way to use ePrint technology and we look forward to seeing the wonderful eSMILES that are sent through by the public this time around.”

The campaign is to run in the lead up to Christmas and during the holiday season from the 1st of December until the 31st of December, 2011.
