HP Australia has announced a range of new business products and solutions, aimed at helping to address the challenges CIOs are facing in 2010. During the last week of March 2010, HP showcased these new products and solutions to Australian business customers as part of a large-scale travelling road-show that has visited countries throughout the region, called HP 2010: Elevate.
As CIOs rethink their IT investments in the recovering economy, HP is demonstrating to business customers how innovative use of technology will enable them to leverage IT for business growth; reach sustainability through environmentally conscious IT and create immersive experiences for better customer intimacy. “Businesses are in a race to react faster and this is even more important in a year of economic recovery. As organisations refresh their technology, it is imperative that their investments in IT create business efficiencies such as automated IT management; lower total cost of ownership; and allow them to scale up quickly to match business growth,” said Janice Cox, Vice President and General Manager, Personal Systems Group, HP South Pacific.
“Businesses that invest innovatively in technology will be in the best position to take advantage of the recovery.”
HP’s new business products and solutions are designed to leverage IT for business growth in the following ways:
Unlock opportunities with touch Enable a secure and mobile workforce Provide the tools for greater sustainability Offer cutting-edge technologies for specialised industries Transforming customer experiences Enhancing the manageability and scalability of IT
Unlock opportunities with touch
HP Australia has launched the first touch all-in-one PC for the business market, the HP TouchSmart 9100 Business PC. The HP TouchSmart 9100 is the industry’s only full-featured, all-in-one, multi touch-enabled business PC that provides real-time information, video conferencing capabilities and multimedia features. This allows businesses to engage customers in a new engaging way with user-friendly, multi-touch enabled applications.
HP’s broad range of notebook PCs also includes the touch-enabled HP EliteBook 2740p NoteBook PC, which offers users the same functionality as a conventional business notebook with the flexibility of a tablet. Users can get their work done faster and more intuitively based on their choice of the pen (digital stylus) and/or finger touch.
HP Australia has also announced the local availability of the touch-enabled version of the HP Mini 5102 Notebook PC, launched in January. The HP Mini is perfect for a simplified, Internet-centric experience for “information snacking” and content consumption(i).
Be productive from the start
There is no longer the need to stare at a blank screen while a notebook boots up. The latest time-saving tool on HP’s new s-class notebook PCs is HP DayStarter that displays the user’s calendar during the boot-up process so that they can get a head start on the day’s activities. HP DayStarter is available on all new HP ProBook s-class models (including the 4320s, 4520s and 4720s). Take a mini companion on the road The newest addition to HP’s extensive range of Notebook Accessories is the HP Projection Companion. Compatible with any notebook with a VGA connection, this ultra-portable accessory is powerful and durable enough to serve as a primary projector for giving presentations while on the road.
Designed for use in smaller settings where a handful of people are present, the HP Notebook Projection Companion is the ideal notebook accessory for highly mobile users who want to make a big impression with a device that’s small, light and convenient. Just 9.3 x 4.0 x 11.1 cm and weighing less than half a kilogram (just 420g), this remarkably compact projector will impress with its sharp images, crisp text and vibrant colours. For even greater convenience, the projector’s AC adapter is the same as an HP notebook adapter.
Provide the tools for greater sustainability
In 2010, the majority of enterprises will spend more on power than on hardware, according to IDC(ii). Costs related to energy consumption have become a business constraint for growth. As an environmental leader, HP is leading the way to help businesses manage power costs with products that have energy-efficient products and features. The HP Compaq 8100 Elite Desktop PC Series features 89 per cent energy-efficient power supplies, supports energy-saving technologies such as solid state drives (SSDs) and offers HP power-management solutions that help support lower energy usage and costs.
HP is also introducing further sustainability features. These include: - HP Power Assistant to gain the real-time visibility and control needed to conserve energy use by desktops as well as stretching the notebook’s battery life for greener computing. On the network level, HP Power Assistant delivers an integrated solution that measures, logs and reports platform energy use, giving IT the information needed to save an organisation money and energy.
- HP Long Life Battery provides up to a three-year life span – up to twice as long as most li-ion notebook batteries. This new technology reduces overall battery waste by requiring fewer batteries to be used over the life of the notebook.
Offer cutting-edge technologies for specialised industries As the industry leader, HP’s workstations are used by those who need intense graphics and highly reliable performance to design everything from running shoes and race cars to animated characters and deep-sea submersibles. They’re also used to manage billions of dollars of tradable securities, labs and mission-critical IT environments.
HP’s latest addition to the Z Workstation series is the HP Z200 Workstation, an affordable and powerful work horse. HP has also now introduced the HP Elite 8740w and HP EliteBook 8540w mobile workstations with DreamColor displays – setting a new standard for mobile productivity, with a true colour display and intense graphics performance.
For specialised industries, such as healthcare, that require keyboards to be immersed and cleaned with soaps and solvents including washing-up liquid, non-abrasive cleaners, general purpose cleaners, bleach, disinfectant, antibacterial cleaners and surgical spirit HP is launching the new HP USB PS2 Washable Keyboard.
By implementing measures such as using IT accessories that enable better infection control, businesses can assist preventing spread of diseases and create a more hygienic environment.
Transforming customer experiences
HP also showcased how enhanced customer intimacy can be achieved by transforming traditional retail environments with its portfolio of digital signage and retail Point-of-Sale products and solutions. HP helps develop an enriched retail environment through various stages.

Enhancing the manageability and scalability of IT
As new technologies like cloud computing emerge and traditional technologies evolve, CIOs are constantly looking to reduce the complexity of their IT infrastructure and to lower their total cost of ownership, while still having the flexibility to scale up or down in line with business growth. HP Thin Clients include HP Client Automation Enterprise that manages both software and hardware so that administrators only need to use one toolset and process to manage PCs, thin clients, server-based computing and virtual desktop infrastructure solutions, reducing the cost and complexity of training.
As a result, IDC estimates that user hardware and software costs in a client virtualisation environment are reduced by more than half for each user yearly, and client virtualisation users require 67 per cent less IT support and administrative labour. Over a five year period, these can represent more than US$16,000 of cumulative cash flow benefits per end user(iii).
HP Thin Clients are also highly secure. Unlike a traditional desktop or notebook computer, no applications or data are stored locally. Hence data is not compromised in the event of a security breach.
