Australia’s gift and homewares industry is gearing up for the number one gift and homewares event, Reed Gift Fairs Melbourne (August 6-10), which last year generated sales estimated at $123.5 million.
Reed Gift Fairs Exhibition Director Omer Soker said the fair was a significant annual contributor to the Victorian economy, creating impressive trade as well as flow on business to other sectors including accommodation, tourism and transport.
Spread over two venues, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Southbank and the Melbourne Showgrounds Ascot Vale, the fair showcases thousands of products from over 800 suppliers and is the perfect opportunity for wholesalers and retailers to come together and explore the new products and emerging trends for the vital Christmas season.
Reed Gift Fairs Exhibition Director Omer Soker says: “This exhibition provides retailers with the opportunity to access the largest range of gifts and homewares products, which is especially important in the lead up to Christmas. We expect to see a lot of committed buyers on the lookout for innovative products and ready to make purchases as the retail year approaches its peak. ”
Reed Gift Fairs Melbourne follows the successful Brisbane exhibition in July which saw Queensland’s sporting legends Wally Lewis and Hayley Lewis launch its Kickstart Brisbane business program.
“We find a lot of wholesalers and retailers are looking to establish lasting relationships and schedule meetings outside the fair to discuss further opportunities. Melbourne is the perfect city to forge these relationships as it has a true appreciation for design and innovation and a real respect for retail and small business,” Mr Soker says.
“After a challenging year we want to support Victorian retailers and facilitate new opportunities. Our popular business seminars will be available free of charge for all attendees. Parking and free shuttle service between the two venues will also be available.”
The Exhibit A showcase will reappear due to its debut popularity last year.
“Exhibit A has been particularly well received as it offers retailers a fantastic opportunity to test out the freshest designs and products from our new exhibitors,” says Mr Soker.
An example of the innovative new comers showcasing their products at Exhibit A is Australia’s own award winning designer Natasha Dwyer. Her brainchild, Arthur Avenue, is all about fun and unconventional fashion with a unique focus on the environment. In 2005 Planet Ark recognised her unique use of recycled fabrics, trims and accessories in their national Recycle the World design competition. “Ms Dwyer’s meticulous handcrafting makes Arthur Avenue’s products timeless and treasured gifts,” says Mr Soker. “Especially popular this season is her children’s wear which makes the perfect gift for that special little someone this Christmas.” The next fair following Melbourne August will be held in Sydney from September 17-20. As the final buying opportunity in the retail calendar, the event provides inspiration, ideas and expert advice on increasing sales, just in time for the Christmas season.
